I can't imagine there will ever be a fashion photographer (in my lifetime) who will produce images more thoroughly researched, imagined,styled and shot with every detail in place and with more passion for showing the next mood in fashion than the ultimate high fashion enthusiast, Steven Meisel.
Anyone interested in photography, pop culture, fashion history, art history, contemporary society and the cult of the fashion model in the 20th century and beyond can & should learn from his 30-plus years of making the most memorable images to appear in a glossy fashion magazine. Whether editorial or ads, his imagination knows no limits and there isn't a look that he cannot turn into a fresh, unexpected visual treat... very often inspired by the current state of our crazy/chaotic/ludicrous world where the boundaries between gender roles, sexuality, violence, entertainment, aesthetics, erotic fantasy and banal reality have all, disturbingly, blurred.
